Workshops for the Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative’s Annual Fatherhood Summit 2010
The Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative (MFI) will host its Fifth Annual Fatherhood Summit, “Empowered Fathers: Bridging the Gap," on Friday, October 8, and Saturday, October 9, at Greater New Birth Church (8201 W. Silver Spring Drive). This year’s featured speaker is five-time NBA All-Star and former Guard for the Milwaukee Bucks, Sidney Moncrief.
Building on the highly successful 2009 summit, “Empowering Fathers: Knocking Out Father Absence,” which featured former Heavyweight Boxing Champ, George Foreman, the MFI’s 2010 summit, celebrating its 5th Anniversary, will target young fathers with an intergenerational panel discussion examining the communication gap that exists between younger and older males from ALL racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Adopting the widespread appeal of basketball, the entire 2010 summit will have a basketball flavor. Everything from the opening “tip-off” (jump ball) to the “final buzzer” (closing ceremony), ALL aspects of the event will be described using basketball terminology that men/fathers understand. Each workshop or session will be titled with sports lingo to engage men in critical discussions that are applicable on the court of life.
Workshops are limited to ninety minutes and should promote fatherhood. In submitting your proposal, you will be asked to explain how your workshop fits into one of the following categories:
